Evening classes provide RYA-approved training on a specific evening of the week, over a block of weeks from the start of the sailing season (April) until Summer School starts.

In normal times you could for example book onto a 10-week block, attending every Monday evening (or whatever available evening you selected) during that period.

Due to Covid-19 restrictions this pattern was adapted into two shorter blocks, with only the second providing beginner training once restrictions had eased. Some training was also offered on Saturday mornings.

The Committee and Instructors Team will review the structure of evening lessons for 2022 based on developments.

Classes are booked through the club calendar. The typical pattern is:

  • Beginners and Improvers (NSS Levels 1, 2 & 3, YSS Stages 1, 2, 3 & 4) – Monday, Wednesday and Friday
  • Informal racing / free sailing – Tuesday (no course fee)

Classes start at 6.30pm and end before dusk (they are usually shorter for juniors to avoid them getting over tired). Tuition follows the RYA syllabus.

Any place on a course is conditional on membership of the Clyde Cruising Club Dinghy Section being finalised, including payment for membership and the course itself. Any cancellation may incur a £25 fee.

Juniors must have reached the age of 8 before the first class.
